Today (February 6, 1923) is the Memorial Day of Edward Emerson Barnard, the discoverer of 15 different comets and the highest precision motion of the galaxy.
Edward Emerson Barnard was born
on December 16, 1857, in Nashville, Tennessee. His father was Aruban Barnard.
Elizabeth Jane Barnard, also known as Mother Crowd. Her father died three months
before she was born. So he grew up in a poor family. Thus he did not study any
formal education. His first interest was in photography. So he worked in
his ninth year as an assistant cinematographer. He later developed an interest
in astronomy. He bought the five-inch refracting telescope in 1876. He
discovered the first comet in 1881. But has failed to announce this finding. He
discovered the next comet in the same year and the third comet in 1992.
In 1881, while still in the film
industry, he married Uroda Calvert, an English woman. Albert Arrington Warner
donated $ 200 to the discoverer of a new planet in the 1880s. Edward discovered
five planets. With this money, he built a new house for himself and his new
wife. After his introduction to the Nashville Apprentice Astronomer, they raised
a sum of money and offered him a scholarship to study at the University of
Vanderbilt. He did not attend school. But he had been awarded the Vanderbilt
qualification degree, which had not been awarded to anyone before. He joined
the Ilik Observatory in 1887. He was later succeeded by its director, Edward S.
Golden has had conflicts with them over access to the use of large astronomical
instruments and other research and management work.
In 1889, Barnard witnessed the
abduction of Job by Jupiter. He also saw a shadow pass over the moon as he
watched Jobeth pass-through space outside the asteroid and its interior.
Although he does not immediately realize it, he has found the setting
perpendicular to the circular tracks of the dark shadow zones as evidence of
the existence of a carousel. Although these were initially doubtful, the
Voyager-1 spacecraft confirmed this. From 1881 to 1892 he discovered 15
different comets, three of which were seasonal. He has also discovered two
planets in conjunction with others. He is a qualified astronomer. He is best
known for his discovery of the high-precision motion of the star Barnard in
1916.
He has received the Government
Astronomical Society Gold Medal (1897), the French Prize for the Brix Johnson
Prize (1906), and the Bruce Medal (1917). Barnard (Milk crater), Barnard (Mars
crater), the Barnard region of the Canyon Moon, asteroid 819 Barnardiana, NGC
6822 Barnard Milky Way, Barnard meteor, Barnard galaxy, University of Barnard.
Edward Emerson Barnard, who discovered the galaxy's high-precision motion,
passed away on February 6, 1923, at the age of 65, in Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
