Today (April 29, 1971) is the Memorial Day of Russian astronomer Nikolay Pavlovich Barabasho, author of photographs of the other side of the moon.

 

Nikolay Pavlovich Barabasho was born on March 30, 1894, in Kharkov, Russia. He graduated in 1919 from the University of Kharkiv in Ukraine; Nikolay served as director of astronomy in the 1930s. In 1934 he became a professor at the University of Kharkiv. From 1943 to 1946 he was Rector of the University of Kharkiv. He became a member of the Ukrainian Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1948.

 

He is also the author of 1961 moonlight photographs. This is called the reverse map of the moon. The Barabasho crater on Mars is named after him in 1973. The asteroid 2883 Barabasho, discovered by Soviet astronomer Nikolay Sudepanovich Chernik, was named in 1978. He has received awards such as the Equality Labor Warrior, the Four Elaine Orders and the Bronze Order for Labor. Russian astronomer Nikolay Pavlovich Barabasho passed away on April 29, 1971.
