Today (August 9, 1923) is the Birthday of Indian physicist Allady Ramakrishnan who has contributed to particle physics, quantum mechanics, special relativity theory.

Alladi Ramakrishnan was born in Chennai on August 9, 1923. His father was the famous lawyer Sir Allady Krishnaswamy Iyer. As a member of the Constitutional Council, he was instrumental in drawing up the Indian Constitution with other prominent members. BS in Madras She received her early education in high school. B.Sc in Presidency College, Madras. (Hans) Degree in Physics and as a student of the College he wanted to work under Sir CV Raman. In consultation with his father Raman, Raman suggested to read the Lehrbuch der Theoretisen Physique by George Juice. Ramakrishnan read the book and developed an interest in theoretical physics and special relativity.

After graduating from Presidency College, Ramakrishnan started working with Homi Baba at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). At TIFR, Baba introduced him to the fluctuating problem of layer theory and cosmic radiation. In August 1949, he received his M.S. He moved to England to work under Bartlett. Ramakrishnan's work on the product density he did while at TIFR was enough work for PhD. But he stayed in Manchester for a further two years to meet his residency requirements. His work on product density was revealed in the Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society.

In the 1950s, he worked on the problem of the fluctuating density field. And published a series of eight articles on the subject. In 1957-1958 Ramakrishnan visited the Advanced Research Institute in Princeton. The Institute of Advanced Study prompted him to start a similar company in India. Ramakrishnan worked in quantum mechanics to provide the process of switching from Pauli to track metrics. He also published a number of papers providing simple but insightful geometric derivatives for the Lorentz transformations.

After returning to Chennai from the Advanced Research Institute in 1958, Ramakrishnan started a theoretical physics seminar at his family home, Ekamra Niwas (a house with a mango tree). At the seminar he gave a small group of students lectures on the latest advances in theoretical physics. He invited the world's leading scientists to address more students. In 1960, Nobel laureate Niels War visited India. And Ramakrishnan was impressed by the small number of students he trained. While in India, Niels went to war with Dr. Ramakrishnan's family home and was inspired to create an institute for advanced research. With the recommendation of the war, and with the support of the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and C. Subramaniam, Alladi started building the Ramakrishnan Institute of Mathematical Sciences. In 1962, Ramakrishnan took over as director. Subramanian Chandrasekhar, a Nobel laureate and a professor at the University of Chicago, started the institute at the Presidency College in Madras. Chandrasekhar has been acknowledged as the Honorary Professor of Astrophysics at this institute.

Ramakrishnan has lectured in over 200 learning centers in his Mad Science. He was unusually generous in giving his Ph.D. Students must travel to learning centers abroad. This will benefit his students. It firmly believes that research is an international step, even if it brings the risk of losing talented students to other institutions. After his retirement, Ramakrishnan continued to teach and encourage. In the last decades of his life, many high school students and undergraduates came to his home in Madras to study with him. They then pursued higher education in the United States.

Ramakrishnan married Lalitha, daughter of mathematics professor H.Supramani Iyer. His son, Krishnasamy Alladi, is a professor of mathematics at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Ramakrishnan was an associate of Carnatic music. He was convinced that more art and science could join hands. Indian physicist Alladi Ramakrishnan left this world on June 7, 2008 at the age of 85 at her son's home in Gainesville, Florida.
