Today (October 11, 2019) is the anniversary of the first man in Space walk, Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov.

Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov was born on May 30, 1934, in Listwanka, West Siberian Krai. During the Russian Revolution of 1905, his grandfather was forced to relocate to Siberia. Yevtokia Nee Chotnikova and Alexei was the eighth of nine children born after Archie. His father was an electrician and a miner. In 1936, his father was arrested and declared the "enemy of the people." After his release his father rejoined the family in Kemerovo. He was compensated for his wrongful imprisonment. Leonov used art as a way to provide more food for the family. He began his artistic career by drawing flowers on stoves. He then drew landscapes on canvases.

The Soviet government encouraged its citizens to move to Soviet-occupied Prussia. So in 1948 his family moved to Kaliningrad. Leonov graduated from high school in 1953. He applied to the Academy of Arts in Riga, Latvia. But decided not to attend due to high education cost. Leonov decided to join the Ukrainian Product Flying School in Kremensuk. In May 1955 he made his first solo flight. While pursuing a part-time interest in the arts by studying part-time in Riga, Leonov began an advanced two-year course as a fighter pilot at the Sukhov High School of Pilots in the Ukrainian SSR.

On October 30, 1957, Leonov received an honorary degree. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the 113th Parachute Aviation Regiment as part of the 10th Engineering Air Force Division of the 69th Air Force in Kay. On December 13, 1959, he married Svetlana Pavlovna Dosenko, one day before leaving for East Germany on his new assignment with the 294th Regiment Regiment of the 24th Air Force. He was one of 20 Soviet Air Force pilots selected as part of the first space training team in 1960. Like most astronauts, Leonov was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. His walk in space was the first to take place on the Voscot 1 mission. But this was canceled. Instead the historic event took place on a Voscot 2 flight. He was 12 minutes and nine seconds out of space on March 18, 1965. Connected to the craft by 4.8 meters (16 feet) tether.

At the end of space, Leono's space suit is so high that he can no longer enter the plane again in the vacuum of space. He opened a valve to allow some pressure of the suit to bleed. And could not return to the capsule. Leonov spent eighteen months training for weight loss. In 1968, Leonov was elected commander of a circular Soyuz 7K-L1 aircraft. It was canceled due to delay in reaching the reliable circular flight. Only later Sound 7 and Sound 8 members were successful. The Apollo 8 mission has already reached that stage in space racing. He was also selected as the first Soviet person to land on the moon aboard the LOK / N1 spacecraft. The project was also canceled. Among the members, astronaut Valery Kupasov was suspected of suffering from tuberculosis.

Leonov must have ordered the next mission to Saliat 1. But it was dropped after the death of Soyuz 11 crew members. The next two Saliats (actually the Army Almas Station) were launched and soon failed. Leono's crew stood with him. By the time Saliat 4 reached orbit, Leonov had been transferred to a more prestigious project. Leono's second mission in space was the commander of Soyuz 19, the Soviet half of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission. This was the first joint space mission between the Soviet Union and the United States. From 1976 to 1982, Leonov was commander of the space team and deputy director of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. There he oversaw team training. He also edited the space newspaper Neptune. Leonov retired in 1992.

Alexei Arkibavich Leonov was twice awarded the title of hero of the Soviet Union in 1965 and 1975. On March 18, 1965, while flying in space, he became the first man in space to be 12 minutes out of space. Recipient of the Lenin Award. Alexei Arkibavich Leonov, the first man in space, passed away on October 11, 2019 at the age of 85 in Moscow, Russia. Alexei Leonov was twice awarded the title of hero of the Soviet Union in 1965 and 1975. Recipient of the Lenin Award.
