Today (October 31, 1875) is the birthday of Iron Man, Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875, into a Gujarati family from the Lewa Patel community. Karamchand is the hometown of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He is survived by three brothers, Somabai, Narsibai and Vidalbai Patel, and a brother, Kasibai, and a sister, Taiba. His father was a devotee of the tradition of Swaminarayan. His father would take him on foot to the Swaminarayan Temple, 20 km away. It helped to make his body fit and strong. Patel completed his matriculation education at the age of 22. Patel decided to become a lawyer within himself and went to England to study law. He bought and read books by other lawyers and graduated in two years.
In 1909, Patel's wife was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for major cancer surgery. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital after a successful operation. Patel was cross-examining a witness in a case in court at the time. He was given a note about his wife's death. He read it and put it in his pocket and continued his cross-examination. He also won the case. It was only after the trial that he told others the news of his wife's death. Somanathapuram Temple M. Who was due to resurrect along with Munshi. While practising law in Ahmedabad, he became famous for helping with the problems of the local people. He won the 1917 municipal election. Listening to Gandhiji's speech at the height of the Swadeshi movement, he left the legal profession and joined the Swadeshi movement.

The tax evasion struggle led by Gandhi and Patel erupted because the government
was not working. The government bowed. Tax cancelled. This is Patel's first
victory. Patel won another satyagraha in Bartoli for the benefit of the
peasantry. He has since been affectionately known as ‘Sardar’ by the people. He
was a leader in the Indian National Congress and was a key figure in the Quit
India movement. After that struggles and imprisonment became routine for him.
Gandhi and Patel were arrested after the failure of the Round Table Conference.
The intimacy between the two grew when they were imprisoned in the Yerawada
Central Jail. He was called a soldier of the freedom struggle. Considered the
soul of Indian farmers. He was one of the foremost creators of modern India. He
served as the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Independent
India.
His first assignment as Home
Minister was to unite the 565 kingdoms in which the monarchy had been
fragmented across the country. He formed Aganda Bharat along with VP Menon.
Aganta Bharat did not come so easily. He followed all the paths to that goal.
Despite the controversies and protests, he managed to stand like an iron man.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of
independent India was the architect of the unification of independent India.
He united more than five hundred princely states to create today's unified
India. He was called the Iron Man of India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron
Man of India, passed away on December 15, 1950, in Mumbai at the age of 75. In
1991, Patel was awarded the Bharat Ratna. In his memory, Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of unity on the 143rd birthday of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel on the banks of the Narmada River in the Narmada district of
Gujarat. This is the tallest statue in the world (182 feet).
