Today (November 3, 1944) is the anniversary of Jack Miner, an American ornithologist who worked tirelessly for the protection of birds.
Jack Miner was born on April 10, 1865, in Ohio, USA. His parents gave him
the name John Thomas Minor. The family immigrated to Canada in 1878.
Uneducated, he initially engaged in hunting. Then, he gave it up and became
interested in bird conservation. He raised quails and turkeys that struggled in
the winter. He saw various birds coming to the nearby ponds and built a pond on
his land. Initially, a few wild ducks came. From 1911 a large number of ducks
began to arrive. Enlarged the pond accordingly. In 1913, the entire area became
a bird sanctuary. There were about 50 thousand birds there. Seeing this, the
government provided financial assistance to further expand his initiative. He
grew many trees and shrubs there. And set the waters.
In 1909 he developed the Bird Banding system for tracking migratory birds. Jack was one of the first people in the world to develop such a system. The sword was built for hundreds of birds. It has been used for various researches on birds. He said water levels were declining and environmental degradation was a painful thing and stressed the need to take steps to rectify it. Encouraged young people to create bird protection systems. His service, which began in 1910, continued until the end.

This revealed that migratory birds are sometimes killed en masse. It also led to legislation in the United States against the capture, sale and killing of certain birds. In 1931, his friends founded the Jack Minor Migratory Bird Foundation. He visited many places and talked about the need to set up wildlife conservation, sanctuaries and wildlife sanctuaries.
In 1923 he published the book ‘Jack Miner and the Birds’, which
contained research studies on charter methods and waterfowl he discovered. The
first edition sold 4,000 copies in 9 months. After that, he became famous all
over the world. Editions of that book are still coming. Jack Miner passed away
on November 3, 1944, at the age of 79 in Gosfield South Township. He is hailed
as the father of North American bird conservation. Many educational
institutions were named after him who did not go to school.
