ISRO Offers Free Online 5 Days Course on Overview of Geocomputation and Geo-web services.
ISRO has invited applications for a 5-day free online course called “Basics of Geocomputation and Geoweb Services”. The course is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The course will be conducted from 31 October to 4 November 2022. The course would be most suited for students with a minimum qualification of under graduation or post graduation, technical or scientific staff of central or state government, faculty, and researchers at university or institutions.
What the ISRO Free Online Course Will Cover?
The ISRO free online course on Geocomputation and Geoweb Services will cover the following topics:
- Introduction to geocomputation, online GIS and geo-web services.
- Open geodata repositories and ISRO geoweb services for thematic applications.
- Programming concepts for geo-computation: Introduction to Python and R.
- Overview of WebGIS and application development.
- Demonstration on introduction to cloud-based geospatial data processing.
Course study materials like lecture slides, video-recorded lectures, open source software and handouts of demonstrations will be made available through e-class. The coordinator of the course is Kamal Pandey.
How to Enroll for the ISRO Free Online Course?
Interested and eligible candidates will have to submit applications on the official website. To participate in the IIRS Outreach program the interested organizations, universities, departments or institutes have to identify a coordinator at their end who will register online their Institute as the nodal center on the IIRS website. Participants can register using the Individual registration option if their institute is not registered under the IIRS Outreach network by entering the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun as the nodal center.
Things to know:
- Only Indian nationals can apply.
- The applicants must be postgraduates or final year postgraduate students of environmental science or life science.
- The scientific staff of the central/ state government, faculty/ researcher at university/ other institutions, and NGO members can also apply.
- Course study materials like lecture slides and video-recorded lectures will be made available through e-class.
- Desktop computer with web camera, microphone and output speakers or laptop with microphone camera and output speakers or large display screen/ projector/ TV with high-speed internet connection is necessary to attend the course.
- There are a limited number of seats and registration will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- The coordinator will need to approve participants for the course.

- To get enrolled in this program, the interested organizations/ universities/ departments/ institutes have to identify a coordinator at their end.
- It is the coordinator who should conduct the institution registration on the official website.
- Participants can make separate registration on the official website by selecting their organization as the nodal center.

- Course updates will be available on the official website of IIRS.
