Today (December 13, 1805) is the birthday of Johann von Lamont, the inventor of the Geomagnetic  Circuit.

Johann von Lamont FRSE was born on December 13, 1805, in Gorymulsey, near Inverre, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His father was Robert Lamont. His mother was Elizabeth Avon. He was educated at the Inver School on the Bremar side. His father died in 1817. He was therefore sent to Germany, to the Sukatsu Benedictine College in Iratizuban, St. James' Monastery. He joined the Pokangkusan Observatory and began his astronomical work. In 1835 he became its director. He completed his doctorate in 1830 and in 1852 became a professor of astronomy at the University of Munich. He worked in the laboratory to create a star list with about 35,000 entries.

His speciality is the Earth's magnetology. He carried out magnetic measurements of the Earth in Bavaria, northern Germany, France, Spain and Denmark. In 1850 he discovered the magnetic decadal oscillation (the decadal interest that creates the geospatial field) and the geomagnetic circuit. This is somewhat similar to sunspot interest. In the same year, Samuel Schwabe discovered the interest of the sun's black dots. He calculated the orbits of Uranus and the carburettor. Coincidentally he was seen once in 1845 and twice in 1846. However, he did not infer it as a new sphere. He is the author of Handbuch des Erdmagnetismus (1849).

He is a foreign member of the Lamont State Council and a member of the Edinburgh State Council. He was commissioned by the King of Bavaria in 1867. He can thus use the preposition van. Johann von Lamont, who also discovered the Earth's circuit, passed away on August 6, 1879, at the age of 73 in Munich, Germany. His statue in Munich is carved with an open hand. People keep small coins here. The Desire Field Group established the marble memorial ark in 1934 in Inverre, Scotland. The statue was unveiled by Sir James Jeans. Lamont (Mars pit), Lamont (Nilak pit) are named after him.
