NAEST-2022 will be conducted in four stages:

  1. Screening (online): In the screening round, 8 to 10 short videos of maximum 1 minute duration on some innovative experiments will be shown to students. Multiple Choice Questions, based on each video, will assess their observation skill, analysing ability and basic understanding of the subject. Students shortlisted from each Anveshika, based on a system of cut off marks, will move to the next stage.
  2. Prelims (online): Students will be required to perform three innovative experiments whose aim and guidelines will be provided. Written reports with photographs and videos will be submitted online. This stage will assess their ability to partially design the experimental set up as well as the procedure, data collection, graph plotting, analysis of the data, making inference and attempt mathematical modelling. Prelims toppers will compete in the next round.
  3. Semi-finals: Students will be required to perform three challenging experiments at Sopan Ashram, Kanpur. This stage will assess more minutely their ability to learn new things along with other experimental skills. Selected top scorers will reach the final round.
  4. Finals: The finalists will be challenged with three rigorous experiments involving use of more sophisticated instruments at Shiksha Sopan, Kanpur. Three national winners will be selected based on their performance.
