Today (December 18, 1890) is the birthday of Edwin Armstrong, the inventor of the world's first radio station, F.M.
Edwin Howard Armstrong (born 18 December 1890 in Chelsea, New York, USA)
is the father of John and his mother is Emily. His father worked at Oxford
University Press and later took a Theta G course at Columbia University. He
first became a professor at Columbia University, where he served as a signal
officer during World War I. He invented the FM radio and broadcast it in New Jersey
in 1935. Since then, his product has been used by many private companies but
has not been renamed. The court ruled in his favour but said no one understood
what FM was.
He is one of the most memorable figures in the history of radio use
through sound modulation. He patented the world's first FM broadcast. It was
patented in 1941 for his renewable circuit. He then patented the second
advanced renewable circuit in 1933. In 1918 he developed the superheterodyne
receiver. He revolutionized radio broadcasting by bringing modern frequency
multiplication (FM). He was forced into a crisis at his job due to the
financial crisis and stress. In addition, their wife Marine McLean moved to another
apartment to see her sister. Edwin Armstrong, the inventor of the world's first
radio station (F.M.), committed suicide by jumping from a terrace in New York
on January 31, 1954, at the age of 63.
