Wilhelm Wien was born on January 13, 1864, in Prussia. He attended school in Rashtenburg in 1879 and in Kaitelberg in 1880-82. In 1882 he received his higher education at the University of Cted'Ivoire and the University of Berlin. In 1883-85 he worked in the laboratory of a scientist named Carmen von Kelmoldz. In 1883 Wein developed Wien's displacement law using thermodynamic and electromagnetic principles. He received his doctorate in 1886 for his research on the effect of colours on different materials during the diffraction of light in metals.
