Today (February 12, 1809) is the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, who spoke out against slavery.
Abraham Lincoln was born on
February 12, 1809, into a poor family in Kentucky, USA. His father Thomas
Lincoln was a carpenter. As a boy, Lincoln assisted in his father's work.
Mother Nancy Hanks. Lincoln walked nine miles through the woods and was educated.
Lincoln was raised by his grandson, whose mother died when he was 9 years old.
Lincoln could not read properly due to family poverty. Lincoln had rare
qualities at an early age, such as helping others and loving others. Lincoln's
qualities of always being lively, storytelling, and having fun made others like
him. Neighbours will be amazed to hear this boy read books aloud at a young age.
I studied in school for only
about a year. But if anyone had a book, he would beg and come and finish
reading, boy. He spent three weeks in elementary school with a teacher who
travelled from village to village. The teacher gave me a book on exam day and
asked me to read some pages. Boys older than this boy could not read. Abraham
read aloud as he spoke on stage. Charcoal used to write on the wall and floor.
Wrote articles. At the age of 14, he walked 12 miles to buy George Washington's
autobiography, The Life of Washington, from a farmer. He read this book over
and over again.
Once, Lincoln went to a market in New Orleans. There he saw a Negro woman being sold into slavery. He saw blacks being sold in the name of slavery, tied up with iron rods, whipped and tortured en masse. He was heartbroken. Lincoln wanted an end to this atrocity. He sought to find ways to do so. Abraham Lincoln's first participation in the Black Hawk War at the age of twenty - three showed him a new path. In 1833 he fell in love with a woman named Ant Ruthless and married her. But within two years, Ant fell ill and died. 7 years later he married a woman named Mary Todd at the age of 33. He had four sons.
Lincoln joined an office at the
age of 22 as a clerk. He then bought a shop on credit and lost business. Next, he worked as a postman in a post office. After that, he studied for himself and
became a lawyer. Served as Member of the U.S. Congress from 1847-1849. Lincoln
concluded that slavery could be abolished only by engaging in politics. In
1834, at the age of 25, he first ran for and won the Illinois State
Legislature. His campaign to the general public was very well received. In the
end, Lincoln won. The next election to the U.S. Senate took place. One of the
most famous judges ran in this election. Lincoln opposed that judge. The
American people eagerly awaited the victory of this election.
In his campaign meetings, Lincoln
referred to the history of the American nation, American politics, the American
situation of the day, the practice of enslaving tens of thousands of Negroes,
white-black discrimination, and the degenerate state of the nation. This attitude
of Lincoln caused an uproar among the American people. The election results
were in Lincoln's favour. Lincoln was first elected to the U.S. Senate. He then
left politics and worked as a lawyer in the private sector for 5 years. In 1854
Lincoln re-entered politics. Lincoln, who had no drinking or smoking habits,
worked hard in politics. In 1860 he was elected the 16th President of the
United States. When he became president, a member said, "Lincoln, your
daddy's sandals still adorn my feet, to put it bluntly, it shows the excellence
of my dad's work. Give me the stitches if you can.
Within two years of his
inauguration, in 1862, all slaves would be freed from January 1 of the
following year. He then declared that there should be no slavery in the United
States. During this time, tens of thousands of blacks who worked as slaves on
rich lands in the southern United States suffered from inequality. A few months
before Lincoln's inauguration, the seven states that support slavery in the
south of the United States withdrew together. After that and the four states
joined them. On January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the revolutionary
"Emancipation Proclamation" for the permanent emancipation of slaves
in the Confederacy. The U.S. Civil War broke out in 11 southern states and
other northern states that rejected it.
Fighting and reuniting the
divided United States on the issue of the abolition of slavery has long been a
major issue for Abraham Lincoln. The Civil War began to oppose and support
this. The protesters were defeated in this battle which lasted for 4 years. His
talk of democracy at the time became known as the "Gettysburg Text".
The resolution was successfully passed in the US Congress. In 1864 he was
re-elected President. Lincoln has consistently been in the top three in the
poll for America's best president. Many times he has topped the name. In a 2004
study, General Lincoln was ranked by many historians as the best president,
while many lawyers ranked him as the second-best president after George Washington.
Because of Lincoln's assassination, he is revered by the American people as
"a national martyr." He is revered by the people as a great freedom
fighter who fought for the abolition of slavery.
Lincoln went with his wife to see
the play "He's an American Cousin" on Good Friday, April 14, 1865.
John Wills Booth, an actor, shot and shot President Lincoln while he was
enjoying the play. Abraham Lincoln died in Washington, D.C., on April 15, 1865,
at the age of 56, in protest of slavery. Many memorials have been erected in
Lincoln's name in the United States. As well as many small and large cities
named after him.
