Today (May 14, 1918) is the birthday of James Daniel Hardy, the pioneer of American organ transplantation.
James D. Hardy was born on May
14, 1918, to Fred and Julia in Nevala, Alabama, the southernmost state of the
United States. His father, Fred, was the lime mill president. When Hardy
was a schoolboy, the country was hit by a recession, and he formed a dance
troupe with his two twin brothers, Julian, Taylor, and friends. Also, he has been
on the football team in high school. Such experiences have been the inspiration
for success in life. Hardy graduated from the University of Alabama in 1938
with a degree in Chemistry, Biology, and German. He joined the University of
Pennsylvania in 1942 and earned his M.D. in Medicine. Graduated.
During World War II in 1944,
he was called up to serve in the United States Army and after serving for 2
years, he decided to become a surgeon and serve mankind. In 1950, Daniel Hardy
wrote his first book, Surgery, and the Endocrine System. He returned to the
University of Pennsylvania, where he studied the fluids of the human body,
graduating in 1951 with a Masters's Degree in Physical Chemistry. He has been
named assistant professor of surgery at the University of Tennessee and
director of surgical research. Head of the Department of Surgery in 2 years. He
served as president of the Department of Surgery at the University of
Mississippi Medical Center, which opened in 1955, and served until 1987.
His work on organ transplantation
was active in the Mississippi University Medical Center. Subsequently, many
animals successfully grouped these surgeries. The group, which first underwent
human lung transplantation in 1963, performed a heart transplant from animal to
human. Hardy, who successfully underwent dual lung transplantation in 1964,
performed heart transplantation from animal to human. Although the treatment
was successful, the person involved was only alive for 90 minutes. His
initiative, despite stirring controversy, has led to the development of the
human heart transplant department.
James de Hardy has authored
numerous books on surgery and has been a member of various surgical
organizations, publishing and publishing articles on surgery. He is a visiting professor
at about 3 dozen medical colleges in the United States and many universities
and colleges abroad. James Hardy, a leading 20th-century medical innovator, and
pioneer of organ transplantation left the United States on February 19, 2003,
in his 85th year.
