Today (June 8, 1625) is the birthday of Giovanni Domenico Cassini, who discovered four sub-planets of the planet Saturn.

Giovanni Domenico Cassini was born on 8 Jun 1625 in the Republic of Genoa. Cascini is the son of Jacopo Cassini and Giulia Crowezi of Tucson. In 1648, Cassini accepted a job at a laboratory in Pansano, near Bologna. Marquis Cornelio, a wealthy amateur astronomer, began the first part of his career working with Malvasia. During his time at the Panzano Laboratory, Cassini was able to complete his studies under scientists Giovanni Battista Riccioli and Francesco Maria Grimaldi. In 1650 the Senate of Bologna appointed him Head of Astronomy at the University of Bologna.

At San Pedronio, Bologna, Cassini convinced church officials to build an improved sundial Meridian line at the San Pedronio Basilica. Moving the pinhole gnomon, the image of the sun was lifted from the Meridian, 66.8 meters (219 feet) away from the church's arches. Large image of the sun disk projected by the ground camera obscura effect. This allowed him to measure the change in the diameter of the Sun's disk throughout the year as the Earth moved toward the Sun and then moved away from the Sun. He concluded that the magnitude changes were consistent with Johannes Kepler's 1609 solar core theory. There the earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical orbit instead of the Ptolemaic system. There the sun circled in a strange orbit.

Cassini worked at Bologna until Colbert hired him to come to Paris to set up the Paris Lab. Cassini departed from Bologna on 25 February 1669. He discovered four sub-planets of the planet Saturn. He also saw sections of the Carrier Zones. He was the first to look at the divisions of the Carrick Zones. The Cashini Division was named in his honor. He was the first to paint a French landmine in his family. The name of the Cassini spacecraft launched in 1997 is named after him. This spacecraft is the fourth space shuttle for the car. This is the first time the car has been around. Giovanni Domenico Cassini, who discovered four sub-planets of Saturn, left the world on September 14, 1712, in Paris, France, at the age of 87.
