Today (January 16, 2017) is the Memorial Day of the black hole man of India C.V. Vishveshwara, who deeply studied Einstein's theory of relativity.
C.V. Vishveshwara was born on
March 6, 1938, in Bangalore. His father Padmasiri CV Venkataramaiya was an
educator. Vishveshwara was interested in literature and music as a child. CV Vishveshwara
holds a master's degree in nuclear physics from Columbia University and a
doctorate in black hole research from the University of Maryland. He worked in
the teaching field at the University of New York, the University of Boston, and
the University of Pittsburgh. He then returned to his hometown of Bangalore. In
1970 he was involved in research on the
‘black hole shape’.
He was the first to analyse the structure of black holes using space-time symmetries. This was followed by drawing the shape of two giant black holes 130 million years ago when they collided with each other. These methods of black hole vibrations are one of the main targets for observation using gravitational wave detectors. Later, he explored black holes in the cosmological background, an important aspect of black hole physics. He also made significant contributions to other areas of general relativity, such as the correct solutions of Einstein's field equations, gravitational pull, small star objects, transition forces, and space-time disturbances.
He created the planetarium in
Bangalore and was its director. He was also involved in writing and directing
planetary shows. Made two science fiction shorts. Einstein wrote several books
and articles on black holes (Einstein's Enigma or Black Holes in My Bubble Bath).
He is known as the 'black hole man' of India. CV Vishveshwara, who studied
Einstein's theory of relativity in-depth, passed away on January 16, 2017, in
Bangalore at the age of 78.
